Bioenno Tech, LLC developed 3 Golgi kits and they include the superGolgi, eliteGolgi, and sliceGolgi Kits. Please see the following table for the staining selectivity of the Kits:

The superGolgi and eliteGolgi Kits are excellent for freshly harvested, non-fixed brain tissues. The impregnation of neurons will take place on tissue blocks. The staining of neurons can be performed on mounted sections or free-floating sections.

The sliceGolgi Kit applies to acute slices, organotypic slice cultures, and ACSF-infused slices. This kit also is excellent for use on brain perfused with the kit-provided Fixative (for more fixative, additional Fixative Kit, cat # 003780 is available). For the Fixative-perfused brain, the impregnation can be performed on either free-floating sections (50~400 μm thickness) or tissue blocks.

An ‘Enhancer’ is added to the eliteGolgi Kit, therefore the impregnation of neurons is faster (3-6 days vs. 1-2 weeks). Importantly, the components in the eliteGolgi Kit are less ‘toxic’ to brain tissues, thus the impregnated tissues/sections are softer and non-fragmented.

The kits work well on retina and spinal cord depending on the age of rat and mouse. The sliceGolgi Kit has been successfully applied onto cultured neurons. However, the yield (the number of staining neurons) is very low. Increasing the time of fixation (e.g., 2~3 days) may enhance the labeling of cultured neurons.
